"Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed."
Expectations: we always have them. We are constantly expecting things whenever something is happening and again we are expecting things whenever nothing is happening.
Expectation gives us hope. It aspires us. In some cases, it saves us from trouble. So, is expectation a pathway to happiness? Well, it makes us better unless it slaps us with some false hopes.
Sometimes we expect something to happen which don’t end up being happening. This absolutely makes us feel down. “This whole time I have been expecting it to happen. But man! Where is it?” All of us can relate to this, right? Well, most of us certainly can.
We expect a trip to be super- duper fabulous, but in the end it is just an average one. We expect a sweet “Hi. How are you? Missing you…” text from our love, but no text is received. We expect our startups to become multi-million dollar companies right away, but a whirpool of struggle sucks you down even when the company is yet to be started. And there can be a lot of other illustrations. Not exactly a pathway to happiness, right? Expectation is not a bad thing. The problem is unrealistic expectation and our inability to cope with minute failures. It is really important for us to recognize the reality of life- which sometimes sucks. By overshadowing the possible future adverse outcomes, we expect unrealistically. This is surely a curse. By making high expectations we set ourselves up for disappointments because not everything is going to be perfect which only assures our frustration and unhappiness. Expectations are hypotheses of future and can be false. What we really need to do is understand and cope with this fact. With low expectation or expectation with good reasoning, the outcome is always better leaving us more satisfied.
